Connecting with Your Client
Being a Hair and Makeup Artist is more then the right equipment and tools. It is more then showing up and meeting the bare minimum. It is about connection. I know this is going to sound basic but first our human needs are water, food, air, and shelter. The ability to offer these needs will automatically help your client feel comfortable and safe. I try to have snacks, water, a clean space, and a jacket or blanket to share.
Each person has something unique and interesting about them. Try to play spy and find this thing whether it be on their exterior or interior. As artists, we enhance the outside but if we can also in some way make the client feel heard and really seen then the internal glow will exude from the inside out. My experience thus far has been extremely satisfying because clients are willing to share and care. These connections make me want to push further and be my best at my work.
Connection is my way to transform the mundane job into love for my work. Connecting with clients builds your client base and the best part is your work day is mostly surrounded by like minded and value added individuals. I would love to hear how you connect with your clients.
